Iraq: Airmail labels

This is a label from Iraq. The design is very similar to old British and Australian labels.

The Republic of Iraq was a Turkish possession until WW1, when it was occupied by Britain. It is located to the north of the Persian Gulf and borders on Syria, Kuwait, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Following WW1, it was mandated to Britain as Mesopotamia until 1932, when it became a kingdom. It has been a republic since 1958.
